About Patricia Pasbrig

Patricia Pasbrig "Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time."
Thomas Merton, No Man Is an Island

Art has always been my escape and my stability, and my skills as an artist have grown along with me. I have lived in many place...Germany, France, Maryland, Massachusetts, Wisconsin, New Mexico, Texas and Arizona...and though each at different stages of my life, art was always there. I always had a passion for arts and crafts, and volunteered as an assistant art teacher when my children were in school. My creativity never stopped, but my hearing did. From age 18, I began to lose my hearing, and eventually went deaf. I was always shy, but due to my hearing, over the years I became more and more shut-off from the rest of the world. I never pursued my own career in art, and stayed at home to raise the kids. I worked here and there, but never really felt it was my calling. Once my children were grown, moved away, had their own lives, and we moved too, I was lonelier than ever.

My husband bought me a multimedia art set, with all the bells and whistles, to help keep my mind of my disability and bring me some inner-peace. I played around with the different pencils, watercolors, pastels, oils and acrylics. I began to perfect my skill, and painted or drew for hours and hours at a time. I did not need to hear or speak well, the paintings became the words I could not hear or say. My family and friends were astonished with the pieces of work that I had created, and I returned to my dream of being an artist once again. For years I was a "hobby" artist, giving only giving them away to friends and family. I had not been confident enough to pursue my dream to sell my art, although my husband may have wanted some help paying for supplies!
I was blessed to be able to get a cochlear implant not too long ago, and now I can hear and converse with others! It has been a long time coming, but, with my new "ear" I have also found my self-confidence again. I have begun to spread my wings as an artist, trying new and exciting media and concepts. I love being able to volunteer at Milan Art Institute, and get to further establish myself as an artist, while being able to share my passion with others. My first new dream was to sell my art - accomplished...now on to complete the Fine Arts Mastery Program funded by my paintings!

Artist Statement

Hands-on learning has given me the experience to be creative. It has also given me a "can do" attitude, tempting me to try new adventures. By picking up a book or magazine, reading about how something is done, and then doing it, I taught myself to become an artist.

I reflect that creative aspect by attempting new techniques, products, or themes, giving me an outlet for the "Artistic Dream" in my paintings. I especially enjoy capturing the beauty and colors of flowers and landscapes, and composing those images to canvas. However, painting different subjects and using new techniques lets my creativity flow, and allows the artistic dreamer inside me to emerge.

I am a realism painter, letting the "Artistic Dreamer" inside grow as I continue to learn and blossom as an Artist.
